Maintaining Work From A Freelancer

I have unfortunately had to carry on work from a freelancer. I asked questions and told them how I think it works and then found out that its not true. It is frustrating, my boss still wants me to finish the site cheaply, but how is this possible.

I have dealt with this by getting evidence from email trails and screen shot poor code.
